South Kent Feeds the Need 2026

Food insecurity is not a distant crisis, it is a constant reality here in Connecticut, where nearly 1 in 7 residents struggles to access consistent, nutritious food, the highest rate in New England according to Feeding America. Demand at local food banks remains elevated, as federal support programs face significant reductions and grocery prices continue to strain family budgets.

In our own town and surrounding communities, working families, seniors, and children quietly rely on the Kent Community Fund and Kent Food Bank. to help bridge the gap. That is why South Kent Feeds the Need matters. As a community rooted in service and responsibility, we are coming together to ensure that no neighbor goes without. When we act collectively, compassion becomes action, and action becomes impact.

At a time when food insecurity is rising across Connecticut, South Kent School is once again answering our call to serve through the fifth annual South Kent Feeds the Need initiative, a community-wide effort to collect monetary donations, nonperishable food, and essential personal care items for the Kent Food Bank.

3 Ways You Can Help:

Student and Employee Volunteers at Davis IGA
South Kent students and employees will be stationed outside Davis IGA on Saturday, February 28, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. They will collect food and personal care donations while distributing lists of the food bank’s most-needed items to shoppers.

In advance, please find a SHOPPING LIST OF MOST NEEDED KENT FOOD BANK ITEMS.

Hockey Drop-Off and Donation Days
Our hockey games on February 27th and 28th will also serve as drop-off events for non-perishable goods for the Kent Food Bank. Home games at Stockdale Arena will take place on Friday, February 27, at 2:30 p.m., 4:45 p.m., and 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, February 28, at 12:00 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. Spectators are encouraged to bring as many non-perishable items as they can. Cash or online contributions for the Kent Community Fund will also be accepted at this time and the students will be using any funds raised to go shopping for items to donate.
