Meet our 10th Head of School, Brian Sullivan

Brian D. Sullivan
Head of School

Dear South Kent School Community,

As I begin my tenure, I want to thank you for entrusting me to serve as your next Head of School. I have had the honor of working alongside the Board of Trustees, Lawrence Smith, and the dedicated employees of South Kent School for the last 18 months, and I look forward to building on the great work we have already accomplished together.

I will dedicate myself to continuing our progress by realizing the needs of our people, programs, and place and supporting the growth and advancement of all aspects of School life. As we move forward into this momentous Centennial year, I plan to meet with as many community members and alumni as possible, both on campus and across the country. I hope to listen and learn from all of you while laying the groundwork to execute the School’s strong Strategic Plan to guide South Kent into the start of its second century and become an industry leader in small-school, all-boy education.

Our aspirations are high as we enter our 100th year with the recognition that to succeed in the future, we must embrace innovation while staying true to our core values. I am prepared to proudly lead our School forward with this goal while remaining steadfast in our Mission, Trinity of Values, and commitment to higher learning.

Thank you to every one of you for your part in making South Kent School so special. While this Hillside already feels like home, I am honored and excited to be welcomed alongside my wife, Liza, and sons, James and Hank, into the incredible South Kent community.

About Brian D. Sullivan

Brian D. Sullivan became South Kent’s tenth Head of School in July 2023.

Having grown up in a family where character, education, and faith were the pillars of a successful life, Brian has made it his life’s work to learn and to teach. Brian experienced firsthand how a boarding school education can support growth, when he was a student at The Hotchkiss School. From there, Brian attended Brown University, where he studied economics and organizational behavioral management. Post college, Brian held roles in wealth management and investments before discovering his true calling in education.

Brian joined Boston Collegiate Charter School, Millbury High School, and Berkshire School first as a teacher and then administration. Joining Kent School, Brian held administrative roles including Class Dean, Assistant Dean of Students, Director of Admissions, Assistant Head of School, and Associate Head of School for External Affairs and Director of Development, before joining as Head of School at South Kent.

Brian’s professional experiences in finance, the classroom, and school administration give him a unique understanding of what makes institutions and students successful. Brian has proven his commitment to a forward-thinking educational model that engages the whole student with an innovative curriculum for the next generation of learners. His appreciation for South Kent’s rich history, values, traditions, and community can only be matched by his understanding of the challenges, opportunities, and vision necessary to ensure success for the next 100 years.

Brian is joined at South Kent by his wife Liza, a career educator and college counselor at Kent School, and their two young boys, James and Hank.
