Check out the below preview for the Centennial Weekend celebrations!
After a triumphant 100th school year filled with many milestone moments, South Kent School is excited to welcome alumni, family, and friends to campus to celebrate with us for our culminating Centennial Weekend event. Starting June 6 through June 9, alumni will be invited to partake in numerous activities throughout the weekend. Whether you are returning to bond and share memories with classmates or are looking forward to hearing what’s happening on the Hillside and what’s ahead, Centennial Weekend will be a wonderful opportunity to connect with and celebrate the people and place that is so special to us. 10th Head of School Brian D. Sullivan, along with other members of the School community, will honor South Kent’s past accomplishments over the last century and share our commitment to creating new opportunities for future SKS students and employees.
To kick off the festivities, South Kent will host its annual SKS Golf Tournament on Thursday, June 6, at The Club at River Oaks in Sherman, CT. Registration will commence at 12:30 p.m. with a Club House lunch leading up to the beginning of the tournament at 1:30 p.m. After 18 holes, there will be an Awards Ceremony in the Club House with an open bar followed by dinner. Please RSVP now to Jennifer Haase at [email protected].
Friday, June 7, starts with breakfast and registration at 9:00 a.m., followed by lunch at noon. At 1:00 p.m., South Kent is lucky to welcome back Emmy Award-winning actor Gordon Clapp ‘67 for a performance and talk in the Bringhurst Auditorium.
On Friday afternoon at 3:45 p.m., there will be a special memorial service honoring James M. Garnett ’74. Jim was a dedicated South Kent student, an executive at CitiGroup, and a remarkable ambassador for the South Kent community. He served on the Board of Trustees, acted as Treasurer, and was a visionary leader committed to guiding the School’s future for the next 100 years.
Friday evening will conclude with drinks and class dinners, starting with the 50th Reunion Class Reception at 5:00 p.m. hosted by Head of School Brian D. Sullivan at his home. The evening will continue with Cocktails in the Courtyard at 5:30 p.m., a cookout in Lawrence Faculty Village starting at 6:30 p.m., and photos with South Kent School’s new cardinal mascot. Class dinners are coordinated by Class Agents and hosted at a variety of local establishments and locations, so please make sure to connect with them and use the Class Groups on Alumni Connection to share updates.
After an evening of celebration, Saturday, June 8, will feature talks, dedications, activities, friendly athletic competitions, remembrances, and a Centennial Celebration dinner.
Saturday registration and breakfast will begin at 8:00 a.m., followed by a Head of School Welcome by Brian D. Sullivan at 9:00 a.m. in the Assembly Hall. Programming will continue in the Assembly Hall at 9:45 a.m. with a special discussion about the alumnae experience and the 14 years of coeducation at SKS, led by Kathleen Brady Lindenmayer ’79. The ever-popular “In My Day” alumni presentations will follow at 10:30 a.m., led by the 50th Reunion Class of 1974.
At 11:00 a.m., Head of School Brian D. Sullivan will host a lively panel discussion with Hillside employees. This will be followed by a “Welcome Back” lunch at 12:15 p.m. and class photos at 1:15 p.m. in the courtyard.
A bus will be available to shuttle people to the Open House at North Campus at 2:00 p.m., and at 2:30 p.m., hockey, rowing, and a Sip & Paint class will keep people busy for the better part of the afternoon.
At 5:00 p.m., we will meet at St. Michael’s Chapel to honor and remember the lives and friends of members of the Reunion Classes in attendance plus South Kent School Founders, Trustees, and volunteers. Our Centennial Celebration Dinner will follow this service at 6:00 p.m. at Joseph J. Brown Gymnasium. The School will commemorate the last 100 years and celebrate with cocktails, dinner, dancing, and festivities. Awards will be handed out to standout alumni from the past year, and the School will give a special retirement tribute to the 9th Head of School, Lawrence A. Smith ‘73, for his years of dedicated service to the School.
To round out the weekend, Sunday offers a service of the Holy Communion at St. Michael’s Chapel with a 9:30 a.m. brunch. We are excited to see everyone at Centennial Weekend, so please make sure to register to confirm your spot on the golf course and on campus for Centennial Weekend.
