Growing up in Cicero, New York, Joel Farabee played for the Syracuse Nationals, Buffalo Jr. Sabres, and Selects Hockey Academy at South Kent. Subsequently, Farabee earned a spot on the United States National Team Developmental Program. This helped him gain more publicity in the hockey world, resulting in him signing to play college hockey with the Boston University Terriers and laying the foundation for Ethan Phillips.
As a Terrier, Farabee won the Tim Taylor Award as college hockey’s Rookie of the Year while also winning Hockey East Rookie of the Year, New England Rookie of the Year, and Hockey East All-Rookie Team honors.
After one amazing year in college hockey, Farabee signed an entry level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers in 2019, the team to which he was drafted 14th overall in the 2018 NHL Draft. Joel Farabee initially played with Lehigh Valley Phantoms, and then made his NHL debut on October 21, 2019. Right now, Joel Farabee is at the end of a 3 year, $30 million dollar contract with the Flyers because of his improved play and impact performances in the playoffs.
Recently, Joel decided to take his talents to Czechia in May to play for Team USA at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championships, joining fellow South Kent alumnus Shane Pinto.
