February 24th South Kent School once again rallied its community for a vital cause: South Kent School Feeds the Need. Recognizing the profound impact of food insecurity on local families, particularly in a town like Kent, where over 100 individuals from 55 households rely on the local food bank despite a median income of $78,125, our school is committed to making a difference.
South Kent School annually “Feeds the Need” aiming to collect monetary donations, nonperishable food, and personal care items to support the Kent Community and Kent Food Bank. The urgency of this initiative is underscored by the recent plea for assistance from the Kent Food Bank, facing bare shelves and a significant rise in families seeking aid.
Last year, our community’s efforts resulted in $1,600 in cash and online donations, along with hundreds of collected items, offering much-needed support to the Kent Food Bank. This year, we’re once again calling on the generosity of our community to help alleviate hunger and food insecurity in Connecticut.
To contribute to this cause, please consider donating to the Kent Community Fund, specifying “Kent Food Bank: South Kent School Feeds the Need” in the donation notes.
In addition to monetary donations, South Kent School will be collecting nonperishable food and personal care items throughout the week of February 17th. Our students will be actively involved in the collection efforts, both on campus during Basketball 3:30pm + 5pm games, Hockey 11:30am + 2pm + 4:15pm games and in the community at the local grocery store, Davis IGA, on February 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
At South Kent, we believe in cultivating thoughtful and engaged citizens who actively contribute to their communities. Through South Kent School Feeds the Need, our students are eager to make a tangible difference in the lives of others, embodying the spirit of service and compassion that defines our school community.
