To cap off what has been a very successful, if somewhat unconventional, season for the South Kent School (SKS) soccer program, two recent graduates, Jai Bean ’21 and Mohammed Seidu ’21, will be playing in the High School Soccer All-American Game on May 29, 2021, in St. Louis, Missouri. The game will be live streamed on Top Drawer Soccer at 1pm CST.
The All-American team selection is an impressive honor, and acknowledges that these players have earned their spots as the two of the top high school players across the nation. “Jai and Mohammed have worked tirelessly since they started on The Hillside. Not only have they improved significantly on the field, but they have performed well in the classroom, and as positive members of our community. Both are members of our leadership council and have served as captains this year. Jai and Seidu were an impactful duo, directing our team to an undefeated 19-0 season and the 2019 Top Drawer Soccer National Championship. They were consistently pushing our team to embody our core values of development, excellence and class. I’m extremely proud of both of them and wish them success in the game and beyond.“ said Head Soccer Coach Owen Finberg,
The High School All-American Soccer Game pits the top players from the east and west coasts against each other, giving players the chance to test their mettle on a national stage, showcasing their talent in front of many of the top college coaches and professional scouts.
SKS is proud to be tied with one other program for having sent the most total selections since the inception of the event.
Along with Mohammed and Jai, the other players from SKS to have been selected are Alex Adjety ’19, Alex Alexis ’16, Detre Bell ’16, Payton Blynn ’18, Hassane Diakho ’20, Vinicus Fernandes ’18, Tahzeiko Harris ’17, and Mickey Watson ’15.
“South Kent School has prepared me in every way to be a better student-athlete, both on and off the field. It’s an honor to be an All-American and I would like to thank my coaches and everyone at South Kent for helping me to this moment,” shared Mohammed.
In addition to playing in the All-American game, both young men are playing USL2 this summer in preparation for their first college season in the fall. Jai Bean will be playing for the Duke University Blue Devils, while Mohammed is headed off to play for the reigning NCAA Division I Champions, the Thundering Herd of Marshall University.
This will be the seventh consecutive year with at least one South Kent School boy playing in the game. Jai and Mohammed, we wish you all the best and all of us on The Hillside will be rooting for you!
