Solving Math Problems to Feed the Hungry

STEM instructor Mr. Joseph Barowski challenges his students to solve advanced math problems to help feed the hungry. Using freerice.com, a website affiliated with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), Mr. Barowski’s Math Lab and Advanced Calculus classes are participating in educational math trivia that help our students get smarter while making a difference for people around the world.

Every math question answered correctly raises 10 grains of rice for the WFP to support its work changing lives around the world. Private sponsors match the rice grain donations generated within Freerice, triggering a financial payment to WFP. Since 2010, Freerice has raised more than 214 billion grains of rice or $1.5 million for people in need.

Mr. Barowski plans to continue solving math problems (and world hunger problems) in his other classes, including Advanced Physics.
