Aptly named “The Old Building”, the original 10-room farmhouse from the John Judd Farm, was and still remains the cornerstone of the School. Dating back to the 1800’s, the building was in fairly good condition, but Sam Bartlett knew it would have to be updated. With the opening of school just around the corner, an addition was needed for the farmhouse to be converted into a space for dorm rooms, offices, and classrooms. Sam commissioned H.H. Taylor of New New Milford to work on various projects around the campus, the most important being the refurbishment of the house. On September 26, 2023, South Kent School opened its doors to 24 boys from all over the country that would call the “Old Building” home.
Today, tis well-loved building continues to be the heart of the School housing department offices, but most importantly the Dining Hall. With students and faculty gathering several times a day to share and enjoy meals, this gathering place, with its storied past, is where life-long friendships are sure to be forged.
