John C. Farr ‘58,
It is with both sadness and gratitude for knowing him that I pass along the news that John Farr, class of 1958 and seventh Head of South Kent School, passed away this morning. John’s wife Sandy, son Chris and daughter Laurie have all been with him for the past few days.
The Class of ’74 dedicated its Yearbook to John. In it they wrote:
Dear Mr. Farr,
Not many people notice the care and handling
of the fine equipment in the Physics Lab;
Not many people know how much maintenance
is required to run the Husky;
Not many people notice the long hours of coach-
ing put in on the field, the rink, and the lake;
Mr. Farr, you do your job, you do it quietly, and
what is more, you do it well.
And because we have seen what you do for
everyone, we, the Nurds of 1974, fondly dedicate
this Yearbook to you.
Those of us who had the privilege of knowing John, or more accurately, having John know us, were better for it. While the world may be a little bit quieter now, thanks to John’s example, it is also more empathetic, more humane, more qualified and more loving. Servant well done.
Rest in Peace John C. Farr.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Farr family.
Soon we will share plans to celebrate our remarkable friend and mentor.
Warm regards,
Lawrence A. Smith ’73
Head of School
