Military Service Record: John Thayer ’65


John Borland Thayer, a graduate of South Kent School’s class of 1965, enlisted in the military in 1968 where he joined the service for four years and two of those year in Vietnam.

While at South Kent School, Thayer played four years of Football and Hockey, three years of Crew and one year of Baseball.  He also participated in Debate, Dramatics, the Nativity Play, as a Black and an Area Inspector.

During his four-year tenure of military service, John demonstrated unwavering commitment and courage, including two years of active duty in Vietnam. His service in Vietnam underscored his bravery and resilience in challenging environments, contributing significantly to mission success and the welfare of his fellow servicemen.
