On Saturday, November 9, the South Kent School Cross Country Team traveled to Marianapolis Preparatory School in Thompson, CT, to compete in the NEPSTA Division IV Cross Country Championships. The Cardinals delivered their best performance in recent years, finishing 25th out of 36 teams.
Jason Zhou ’27 led the South Kent runners, crossing the finish line in 46th place with a time of 20:11 on the 3.1-mile course. Not far behind, Aidan Sherlock ’26 completed the race in 21:48, placing 103rd in the highly competitive field. Like Zhou and Sherlock, five other Cardinal teammates achieved their fastest times of the season. Perhaps the most remarkable effort of the day came from George Wu ’27, who shaved over five minutes off his previous best in a 3.1-mile race.
The championship race capped a successful season for the Cardinals, with head coach Father Steve Klots praising the team as the “best team” he has coached in years. “I have had faster teams,” Father Klots noted, “but this group of runners was unmatched in the way they supported each other, showed up ready to run each day with a positive attitude, and displayed tremendous improvement since that first practice back in early September.”
With all but one runner returning next year, the future looks bright for South Kent Cross Country.
