South Kent School’s Cross Country team celebrated Senior Day with an exciting home meet against Kent School, Wooster School, EF Academy, and Trinity Pawling, highlighted by a record-setting performance from senior Ryan Pignataro.
With the Hillside community lining the course to cheer on the runners, Pignataro delivered an unforgettable race, finishing first overall in 18:52 and setting a new course record. His performance capped an energetic afternoon of competition and school spirit, as teammates, classmates, and faculty gathered to support the team and celebrate the program’s six seniors.
Following the race, Head Coach Reverend Steve Klots recognized the senior class, reflecting on the individual growth of the runners and the progress of the Cross Country program over the past four years. Senior Day offered an opportunity to celebrate not only the accomplishments earned on the course, but also the dedication and camaraderie that have shaped the team along the way.
Among the six seniors, Gerd Pflucker and Zijie Zhou have been members of the team for all four years, witnessing and contributing to the program’s development throughout their time on the Hillside. Their commitment, alongside that of their fellow seniors, represents the lasting impact student-athletes can have on a team and the community around them.
This year’s senior class includes:
- Odin Bonis
- Jonah Goidel
- Vas Gray
- Gerd Pflucker
- Ryan Pignataro
- Zijie Zhou
As the season draws to a close, South Kent School celebrates these six student-athletes for the miles they have run, the growth they have demonstrated, and the example they have set for their teammates. Congratulations to our six seniors, and thank you for the commitment and spirit you have brought to South Kent Cross Country. We look forward to cheering on our runners at the New England Championships as they close out the season!
