Aptly named “The Old Building”, the original 10-room farmhouse from the John Judd Farm, was and still remains the cornerstone of the School. Dating back to the 1800’s, the building was in fairly good condition, but Sam Bartlett knew it would have to be updated. With the opening of school just around the corner, an addition was needed for the farmhouse to be converted into a space for dorm rooms, offices, and classrooms. Sam commissioned H.H. Taylor of New New Milford to work on various projects around the campus, the most important being the refurbishment of the house. On September 26, 2023, South Kent School opened its doors to 24 boys from all over the country that would call the “Old Building” home.

Today, this cherished building remains the heart of South Kent School, serving as the new home to College Counseling, the Business and Department offices, and the main Dining Hall. Students and faculty gather here multiple times a day for meals, fostering a sense of community. With its rich history, this space continues to be a place where life-long friendships are made.
