Greetings from South Kent School
You have been hearing about the exciting things happening on the Hillside, but we would like to hear about YOU!

Here are just some of the most recent happenings –

Class of 1964 Mini Reunion
On October 2 a Raymond chili fest attracted Bill Reed and Malcom Moore from Vermont, and Tony Cao, Peter Keck, Ned Williams, and George Wood, from Massachusetts. This gathering was due to the great suggestion by Tony Cao. “Tony Cao, quiet man in a herd of bellowing buffalo, knew what was needed”.

Tom Richards ’74
Congratulations Tom on your recent invention.
Duracell launched a new battery product Duracell Optimum that contains a new cathode material Tom found a way to stabilize about 9 years ago (it typically takes about this long to introduce a new active material into a battery product !). Tom found a way to decrease the electrochemical potential of the new cathode material so it does not oxidize the aqueous electrolyte used in alkaline batteries. He’s also going to start a collaboration with a professor at Harvard focused on making less expensive but equally or better performing cathode materials.
As Tom recently said in an email to Lawrence Smith, “I’m very proud of this work and grateful for the influence Paul Abbott’s chemistry class at South Kent had on my interest in chemistry and electrochemistry”.
Chris Casey ’85
Chris shared a great photo from his recent visit to the Denhams.
I was in Santa Fe for Thanksgiving and caught up with my old wrestling coach and Spanish teacher, Doug Denham ‘65 and his wife Dee Dee in Albuquerque. Doug has retired from Albuquerque Academy and just published his dictionary of English slang and phrases for native Spanish speakers. It’s titled El Eslang y Las Frases Figuradas Del Dialecto Norteamericano and is available on Amazon.
