Keith Petruzzelli was born and raised in nearby Wilbraham, Massachusetts. Aa a member of the 18U team for South Kent during the 2015-16 season, Petruzzelli had the best season a goalie could have; winning the USPHL Goaltender of the Year, USPHL Most Valuable Player, and helping the team win the USPHL National Championship. Following the championship season, Petruzzelli suited up for the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL. Throughout his time in junior hockey, he posted an impressive 22-10-1 record with a 2.40 goals-against average.
Shortly after committing to play at Quinnipiac University in the fall of 2017, Keith Petruzzelli was drafted 88th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft by the Detroit Red Wings, becoming the second highest drafted player among all Quinnipiac players. Petruzzelli had a fantastic career in yellow and blue, and the culmination of his time in college came during his senior year. Petruzzelli simply could not be scored on, as he went 17-8-4 with four shutouts, a 1.89 goals-against-average and a .926 save percentage. After the season concluded, Keith Petruzelli won ECAC Goaltender of the Year and was named as a finalist for the ECAC Player of the Year and a member of the ECAC First Team. While winning major conference awards, his superb play was recognized nationally, as he was nominated as a top ten finalist of the Hobey Baker award, the most outstanding Division I player. He also was a finalist for the Mike Richter Award, given to the best goalie in Division I hockey.
Since leaving Quinnipiac, Keith Petruzzelli has played for the Toronto Marlies of the AHL, and the Newfoundland Growlers of the ECHL.
