Brian Mueller ’91

Brian Mueller joined the Hillside in 1990 from Liverpool, NY, recording 51 points in 32 games. After playing a year of junior hockey, Mueller was drafted by the Hartford Whalers 141st overall in the 7th round of the 1991 NHL Draft. He would move on to the collegiate ranks to play three years with Clarkson University (1992-95), becoming an instant impact to a team that previously made it to the Frozen Four. Along with guiding the team to three NCAA Tournament appearances, Mueller was a First Team All-American during his junior and senior seasons. He was also the only unanimous ECAC All-Star two years in a row, recording 39 goals and 117 assists in his career. His legacy in college hockey was solidified when he was a top ten finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, and he was nominated as one of the top 50 players in ECAC history.

After Clarkson University, Mueller would play his first two seasons of professional hockey with the Springfield Falcons. Brian Mueller then went to Europe before coming back to North America, as retired in 2000 with the Saginaw Gears of the UHL. He continues to stay involved in the game today through coaching, as he has worked with juniors players, winning two junior national championships in 2012 and 2016. Mueller was also hired by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 to coach the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite, a place he called home through the 2022 season.
