Summary of Service:
Robert Hallock Bauer, known as “Bob,” served with distinction in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946 during World War II. Holding the rank of Ensign, which is just below Lieutenant and above a non-commissioned Petty Officer or Midshipman, he was the oldest World War II veteran in the town of Kent at the time of his passing.

Bob’s service in the Navy exemplified his dedication and patriotism during a critical period in American history. His contributions to the war effort were part of the collective sacrifice and valor demonstrated by the Greatest Generation.

After completing his military service, Robert pursued a degree in mechanical engineering from Yale University, graduating in 1948. His career spanned several companies, including Robertson Bleachery & Dye Works, Scovill Manufacturing, Century Brass, and Kero-Sun Inc.

Beyond his professional achievements, Bob was deeply involved in his community. He served on the board of selectmen in Kent, was chairman of the sewer commission, and worked as the zoning enforcement officer in New Milford. Bob was a dedicated member of the Kent Volunteer Fire Department for fifty-seven years, serving as Fire Chief from 1975 to 1980.

Bob’s commitment to service extended to his personal life, where he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid hockey and UCONN Girls Basketball fan and a longtime member of the Kent Congregational Church.

Robert H. Bauer passed away on December 27, 2023, at the age of 98.
