EASTHAM – Nathaniel (Nat) Goddard died at home surrounded by his loving family on December 30, 2019 after a 10-year journey with pulmonary fibrosis. He was 85 years old.
Mr. Goddard was born on October 12, 1934 in Boston, MA to Lucy and Bill Goddard. He graduated from South Kent School in 1953, Harvard University in 1960, and The University of Virginia in 1975. He married Katherine Huber on June 3, 1961. The Goddards lived in Western Connecticut, Puerto Rico, and Virginia where Nat worked as a teacher and administrator. He taught at Marvelwood School, South Kent School, Stuart Hall, St Anne’s-Belfield and returned to South Kent where he retired from boarding school life in 1994. In his retirement years, Nat worked for the Town of Eastham’s Natural Resources Department and volunteered for Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, Habitat for Humanity, and Friends of the Seashore. One of Nat’s greatest pleasures was travelling with Kathy, friends, and family.
More recently, Nat coordinated with Aliaa Bakarat at the ILD Collaborative and specialists from the Boston medical community to start the Cape Cod Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group. His legacy will live on through this group of very special people.
