The College Board Recognizes Two South Kent School Students with Scholar Honors

The College Board has recognized two South Kent School students with scholar honors based on the 2021 Advanced Placement (AP) testing that was held at the school and online.

Zhouxingyu Yan, Class of 2022, is an AP Scholar with Honor and Yuxuan Xiao, Class of 2022, is an AP Scholar.

Zhouxingyu Yan was recognized for his high achievement on multiple Advanced Placement tests. Zhouxingyu, also known as James, is from Chengdu, China. He is in his senior year and is a four-year boy at South Kent School. To be identified as an AP Scholar with Honor, a student must have an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

Yuxuan Xiao, also known as Ike, was recognized with the AP Scholar honor, which is granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams. Ike is also a senior and a three-year student at SKS. He is from Guangdong Province, China.

South Kent School allows students to take AP tests if they are studying independently or taking a similar class. Both of these students studied on their own for the tests.

The AP Scholar Awards are academic distinctions that students may cite among their credentials on applications, resumes, and so on. Students do not receive any monetary award from the College Board.

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program® (AP®) provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams.

More than 3,600 colleges and universities annually receive AP scores. Most four-year colleges in the United States provide credit and/or advanced placement for qualifying exam scores. Research consistently shows that AP students who score a 3 or higher on AP Exams (based on a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest) typically experience greater academic success in college and have higher college graduation rates than students who do not participate in AP.
