The South Kent Selects Academy U-15 National team allows families who desire AAA level play for their younger students the ability to do so while attending boarding school. While attending school, players receive the highest level coaching, exposure and training available and they play a AAA schedule that is not limited to the traditional 33-game prep schedule. The U-15 National program provides a highly competitive 50-60 game, AAA level schedule consisting of highly recruited showcases, elite tournaments and competitive, independent non-league games across the U.S. and Canada. Eligible to compete for the USA Hockey Tier I national championships. These players regularly receive attention and college commitments from some of the top Division I NCAA schools along with players being drafted into the USHL.
Born and raised in Assonet, MA, Ward earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with Cum Laude honors from Bowling Green State University. He went on to serve as video coach for the New York Islanders from 2008-2012. During that time, he was selected to coach for Team USA at the World Championships in both 2010 (Germany) and 2012 (Finland). From 2014-2016, Ward was part of the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL) and Toronto Marlies (AHL) organization.
Ward spent the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 campaigns as an Assistant Coach for the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, in charge of the team’s power-play. In 2017-2018, the Greyhounds posted a franchise best 55-7-6 regular season record, were ranked the #1 team in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) for a majority of the season, and compiled a 23-game consecutive win streak. After capturing the 2018 Hamilton Spectator Trophy as the OHL regular season champions, the Soo went on to win the OHL Western Conference Championship before falling to the Hamilton Bulldogs in the finals. The Greyhounds led the playoffs in power-play goals with 28 and an efficiency of 29.8%. Two of Ward’s players were selected as first-round NHL draft picks: Barrett Hayton (5th Overall, 2018 – Arizona Coyotes), and Morgan Frost (27th Overall, 2017 – Philadelphia Flyers).
Associate Head Coach
Karl Linden started at SKS in 2018 as Head of Skill Development and Assistant Coach for U18 . Linden, a 2011 graduate of Elmira College with a degree in Political Science joined South Kent Selects Academy after spending the previous year as the Head Coach and General Manager for the Connecticut Oilers in the Eastern Hockey league.
At Elmira, the Soaring Eagles, Linden amassed 80 points in 103 games, becoming the 6th Defenseman Reebok All-American in program history, earning ECAC West First team honors, Voted USCHO Rookie team and made the NCAA tournament all four years.
During his professional career, Linden spent time in Central Hockey League that merged into ECHL with Arizona Sundogs & Wichita Thunder, Making it to the Presidents Cup Playoffs once. After retirement from playing, Linden pursued a college coaching opportunity with Castleton University in VT. As the Assistant Coach for the Spartans, Linden coached the team defense, special teams, scouted and recruited while pursuing his Masters Studies in Athletic Leadership.
A native of Stockholm, Sweden Linden grew up playing for the distinguished AIK organization finishing with Juniors J18 & J20 SuperElite League. Prior to college, Linden also spent time playing Jr A in Canada with the Bradford Rattlers in the Greater Metro Junior Hockey League, earning the League Best Defenseman and League MVP awards.
Linden currently owns and operates Konquer Hockey, a leading Skill & Development Company in CT. Linden & Konquer Hockey has a clientele consisting of (NHL), European & Minor Professional, DI, DIII and Prep School players. Linden resides in East Haven, CT with his wife Ariana.
