Since its inception in 1971, soccer has been a cornerstone of athletic excellence at South Kent School, establishing itself as one of the premier boys’ soccer programs in the country. From humble beginnings to national championships, the journey of South Kent soccer is a testament to dedication, skill, and a commitment to excellence on and off the field.

In its early years, South Kent soccer quickly emerged as a force to be reckoned with, competing against local rivals such as Kent School and Housatonic. Despite being a relatively young program, South Kent soccer distinguished itself with its tenacity, skill, and unwavering spirit, laying the foundation for future success.

In 2006, under the leadership of Owen Finburg took over as program manager from 2015 to 2022. Under his guidance, South Kent soccer claimed three national championships and 7 New England titles, solidifying its reputation as a powerhouse in the world of prep school soccer.

But beyond the accolades and victories, South Kent soccer has always been about more than just winning games. It’s about fostering camaraderie, sportsmanship, and a love for the beautiful game. The program instills values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance in its players, preparing them not only for success on the field but also for success in life. South Kent Soccer shows this by sending numerous players who compete at a high level collegiately and professionally. With numerous MLS Super Draft picks coming from South Kent such as Joshua Bolma ’21 and Matthew Bell ’22, the program continues developing young men into polished, mentally-tough individuals.

Today, South Kent soccer enters a new chapter under the leadership of Colin Hodge, who joined the school as the Director of Soccer and Head Coach in Spring 2023. With a wealth of expertise and a passion for the game, Hodge is poised to build upon the program’s rich legacy and continue its tradition of excellence. From the pristine fields of South Kent to the national stage, the future of South Kent soccer shines bright, fueled by the talent, dedication, and spirit of its players and coaches alike.
