Job Summary: The Director of Annual Giving plays a central role in advancing South Kent School’s fundraising strategy by leading The South Kent Fund’s efforts to successfully achieve year-over-year growth through the annual fund and related initiatives. This position is responsible for building strong relationships with parents, alumni, and friends of the School while driving annual operating revenue growth through strategic solicitations, stewardship, and fundraising events. The Director of Annual Giving will be expected to meet established fundraising revenue goals annually, ensuring that philanthropic support continues to grow and to do so in a highly ethical manner, subscribing to industry best practices.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Fundraising & Strategy
- Lead and manage all aspects of The South Kent Fund, with a clear focus on dollars, participation, and overall growth of the program.
- Oversee the development and execution of all South Kent Fund solicitation materials, including print, digital, and social media content to deliver consistent donor messaging, campaign branding, and impact storytelling.
- Provide regular progress reports on Annual Fund performance, donor participation, and projections.
Donor Engagement & Stewardship
- Partner with the Chief Advancement Officer and Head of School to cultivate and steward meaningful relationships with alumni, parents, and friends, encouraging sustained and increased giving.
- Coordinate with the Director of Alumni Operations and Stewardship to ensure timely and thoughtful donor acknowledgment and stewardship.
- Manage the production of the Annual Donor Report, ensuring accuracy, recognition, and donor satisfaction.
Campaigns & Events
- Partner with the Chief Advancement Officer and Head of School to design and implement appropriate solicitation and engagement strategies for all constituencies.
- Oversee logistics and donor engagement strategies for Giving Days, Alumni Weekend, Prize Day, and regional/alumni gatherings ensuring successful participation and fundraising outcomes.
Team & Institutional Collaboration
- Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Advancement Officer or Head of School.
Job Education and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of related experience, preferably in an educational or similar setting.
- Possesses excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to be analytical, creative, professional, and persuasive with a wide range of constituencies. Experience and/or skills sufficient to prepare, produce, and statistically analyze trends and create and deliver reports.
- Capable of editing and producing error-free copy for a variety of platforms with an institutional voice, often on a tight timeline
- Strong management skills, both strategic and operational, and a demonstrated ability to manage projects, processes, and people.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and creatively with individuals and a team.
- Possesses skills to navigate various social media platforms, design software, and websites.
- Proficiency in use of technology: Raiser’s Edge database (NXT/BlackBaud), GiveCampus, Senior Systems, iWave Donor Prospecting, Google, and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service. Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
Compensation
Compensation is competitive and includes meals when school is in session. Health and retirement benefits, including TIAA-CREF, are part of the compensation package. Funding exists to support advanced degree work, as well participation in professional growth opportunities such as conferences and workshops.

Job Summary: The Controller will be responsible for oversight of financial accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, assist as needed with payroll and employee benefits administration. Planning, directing, and coordinating all accounting operational functions. Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results. Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements. This hands-on position supervises a staff and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day Business Office activities.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Accounts Receivable (billing, payment posting, receivables and collection efforts, statements, unclaimed property, etc.)
- Audit and 990 lead for documents and schedules.
- Manage, oversee, and efficiently organize the timely daily accounting functions of the company as well as the accounting team performing those functions.
- Develops, implements, and maintains accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Assist in the development of annual budget and forecasts; collaborates with other department heads to monitor budgets and identifies variances.
- Ensures timely and accurate financial reporting by supervising, supporting, and reviewing the accounting work of the staff accounting team and, to a lesser extent, performing the work oneself.
- Oversees cash management and cash controls, including frequent cash reconciliations.
- Ensures AP/AR activities are handled timely and according to company policy and procedure.
- Files monthly, quarterly, and annual reports with external auditors, lenders, and financial partners.
- Oversees financial systems implementations and upgrades.
- Assist the CFO with identifying and managing business risks and insurance requirements.
- Assist the CFO with analyzing operations for efficiencies to identify areas in need of reorganization, downsizing, or elimination.
- Works with the CFO and other members of senior leadership to coordinate planning and establish business priorities.
- Recommends financial benchmarks that will be used to measure the schools’ performance.
- Recruit, develop, train, and evaluate the staff accounting team to ensure the most optimal and cost-effective structure needed to accomplish the department’s goals.
- Manage School Store needs including inventory control, product order/re-ordering, online website management with staff, back up for staff.
- Act as a purchasing agent.
- Liaison with Admissions to ensure enrollment numbers are met, assist with contract processing as needed, and finalize student enrollment.
- Liaison with Development: monthly gift reconciliations, temporary restricted gift record maintenance.
- Assist with the implementation of the Departmental Budget Management.
- Provides accounting assistance to the CFO.
- Any other duties as assigned.
- Maintains qualifications for employment in accordance with institutional and accreditation guidelines.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of School or the Dean of Faculty.
- Supporting the School and its leadership.
Job Education and Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
- MBA, Master of Accounting or CPA/CMA designation preferred.
- Minimum of five years of strong operations experience and/or at least 3 years in a senior management position.
- Familiar with concepts related to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Exceptional problem-solving skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel is required.
- Experience with accounting software Blackbaud Financial Edge preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Distinct organizational and management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping.
- Self-starter attitude; originates and develops constructive, creative ideas.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Demonstrates the highest level of integrity and business ethics with a strong sense of confidentiality.
