Student Blog: Aaron Carver '15

You are here

Aaron Carver is a post graduate student at South Kent School, and is set to complete his studies here in May 2015. He is both an academic and an athlete, and is chronicling his experience as a first-year student at South Kent. In this post, Aaron blogs about his background and also his feelings while getting ready for the academic year.

Hello, my name is Aaron Carver and I am from Elizabeth City, North Carolina. I will be attending South Kent School as a post grad student. Last year I attended Northeastern High school in my hometown. Northeastern High will always be dear to me because it is where I grew alongside my classmates for four years. As a little kid I always dreamed of being a great basketball player, as I am sure a lot of us have, but my education has always came first. My family is the reason for that. My mom would never let my grades slip and that led to me graduating from Northeastern with a 4.39 weighted GPA, bringing me to the top ten of my class.

In school, I was a member of the National Honor Society and I have to say my favorite subject in school is math. I choose math because it allows me to figure out problems, which gives me a feeling of accomplishment. Outside of school, I enjoy relaxing and spending time with my family whenever I am not playing basketball. On the court in high school, I was a leader on my team by pushing myself just as much as I pushed my teammates. I received a lot of accolades but I always wanted to push for my very best. I still feel that I have to prove to people that I can play with anyone and that’s why I work as hard as I can to get better.

As I begin to pack, I am really starting to realize that I will be ten hours away from home for a whole year. That brings great joy and excitement but it also brings the “what ifs.” What if I don’t like it? What if I get homesick? What if I don’t perform well on the basketball court? When these questions come to my mind, I try to counteract them with positive thoughts that normally over power the negatives. With three days left before I embark on my journey to South Kent, I am feeling very confident that this will be a great experience for me as a student athlete but even moreso as a person. I am hoping to meet new people and become a better person during this upcoming school year. I have a feeling that this is going to be a great year.
