Future Challenges
South Kent School graduates have made invaluable contributions to politics, business, sports and social entrepreneurship that have far reaching global impacts. However, new realities challenge today’s students and educators as they look to continue to positively impact the world stage. Having to contend with global and domestic challenges such as the threat of terrorism, increased reliance on technology (nano-technologies, bio-engineering and social computing), national debt and inflation, a changing ethnic demographic, trends in population and aging, environmental issues, climate change and resource depletion will demand creative and innovative solutions of the next generation of leaders.
Global Leadership:
The Center for Innovation (CFI)
To better prepare our students for global leadership roles in the face of inevitable rapid social and technological change characteristic of today’s culture, South Kent School has created a powerful co-curricular learning experience with the founding of its new Center for Innovation. By merging its vigorous traditional academics and 21st-century core skill proficiencies with experiential inquiry-based learning at the Center for Innovation, the School will engage, motivate, encourage and nurture our student’s innovative problem solving, understanding of social entrepreneurship and commitment to stewardship. Through the Center for Innovation programs the School will continue to provide students with a solid academic foundation while challenging them to inquire into the many facets of the dynamic interplay between human creativity, intuition, and technology. The program will feature and promote project-based learning and real world applications to address issues of sustainability and renewable energy. The School has identified three broad program areas that will be developed at the Center for Innovation.
