U-18 National Hockey

The Selects Academy at South Kent School U-18 National program allows those players moving on from the U-16 levels to continue their education without disruption while offering a widely desired and, until now, unavailable alternative to New England prep school hockey. This U-18 National team plays the most competitive Tier I Midget schedule, participating in the top U-18 tournaments in the northeast and across the country. By continuing their high school education at South Kent School, our U-18 players position themselves to make the transition to higher levels upon graduation including the NCAA, USHL and CHL. South Kent students on the U-18 National team are receiving college commitments from some of the top academic and Division 1 NCAA schools in the country. In addition, our students regularly receive attention from NHL scouts. They are being placed on the NHL Central Scouting List and are projected as future NHL draft picks.
Where have our Cardinals flown?
Dave Peters has been coaching for SKS since the 2014-'15 academic year. Peters brings a wealth of knowledge to the program and coaching staff. He has coached at the collegiate level for more than 20 years, including five years as the top assistant at Providence College and most recently as the Associate Head Coach at Dartmouth College. Peters has recruited, coached and helped to develop many college and pro players including 15 that have played in the NHL.
Dartmouth calls Peters “one of the most accomplished assistant coaches and recruiters in the country” who “has a proven record for improving programs and helping to develop players. In 2001, Peters helped lead Dartmouth to their first winning season in 20 years, followed by seven trips to the ECAC Championships, an ECAC first place finish in 2006 and an Ivy League Title in 2007. The 2004-05 Dartmouth team had an ECAC Record 8 future NHL players on the Roster. Peters was the top assistant and lead recruiter at Providence College from 1993-98 where he helped lead the Friars to the 1996 Hockey East Championship and back to back trips to the Hockey East Finals.
Peters has received many accolades over the years including the Terry Flanagan Award in 2008, which is “intended to recognize a College Hockey Assistant Coach's entire body of work.” Peters is also a development coach for USA Hockey in the New England District where he has spent the past 15 years evaluating and coaching the top young prospects in New England. Coach Peters received his Bachelor’s degree at Boston College where he played hockey and majored in Marketing. He lives on the Hillside with his wife Katherine and son Jake.
